Privacy Policy

Metro Gnome is built to be useful without knowing who you are. There is no account, no sign-up, and no personal information required to use any feature. This policy explains in plain language exactly what the app does and does not collect, why, and the choices you have.

This policy applies to the Metro Gnome Android app ("the app", "we", "us") published on Google Play. It was last updated on 14 June 2026.

The Short Version

In short: We do not ask for your name, email, or any account. We do not collect personal data that identifies you. Microphone audio is processed entirely on your device and is never recorded or uploaded. The app does use anonymous analytics, anonymous crash reporting, anonymous diagnostic measurements, and Google ads, all described below.

Information We Do Not Collect

Metro Gnome has no login and no user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, or any other information that personally identifies you. You can use every feature of the app without providing any personal detail.

Microphone

The app requests microphone access for its listening features: the rhythm game, the chromatic tuner, and Groove Check timing feedback in Practice and Speed Trainer. Permission is requested at the time you first use one of these features, and the rest of the app works fully without it.

All microphone audio is analysed in real time on your device to detect pitch and the timing of your claps or notes. The audio is never saved to a file, never recorded, and never transmitted off your device. When you stop using a listening feature, nothing about the sound remains.

Data Stored On Your Device

Your settings, presets, high scores, practice streak, unlocked items, and reward progress are saved locally on your device only. This information stays on your phone, is not sent to us, and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how features are used so we can improve them. These are aggregate, anonymous usage events, for example that a metronome session started, how long a session lasted, which sound was selected, or that a game was completed with a given score. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites.

Anonymous Crash Reporting

The app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to report crashes and errors automatically. A crash report contains technical diagnostic information such as the device model, the Android version, the app version, and the state of the app at the moment it failed. This helps us find and fix bugs. It does not include your personal identity.

Anonymous Diagnostic Submissions

To improve how reliably the microphone features work across the wide range of Android hardware, the app may send anonymous diagnostic measurements to a Google Firebase (Firestore) database. There are two such streams:

These submissions are tied only to an anonymous Firebase identifier created on the device, never to a personal account, and they contain no personal information. They are write-only from the device and are used solely to improve the accuracy of the tuner and the microphone timing features. This reporting is best effort and never affects how the app works for you.

Advertising

Metro Gnome is free and displays ads through Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google's advertising SDK may collect device identifiers, IP address, and app usage information in accordance with Google's own privacy practices. You can review and control ad personalization in your device settings, and you can learn more from Google's policy on how it uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Third-Party Services

The app relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Permissions

Children's Privacy

Metro Gnome is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal information from anyone, this is straightforward, but if you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will address it.

Your Choices

You can decline or revoke microphone permission at any time in your device settings, and the listening features will simply be unavailable while the rest of the app keeps working. You can limit ad personalization through your device's advertising settings. Uninstalling the app removes all data stored locally on your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and post the updated version here.
